Ride Green... One Schmidt at a Time

At Ride we have begun making strides in the right direction and continue to implement processes to help reduce our impact on the environment. In addition to internal practices such as utilizing electronically stored files, paper that is made up of 30% post consumer material and employee commuter incentives to bike, carpool and bus to work, we are applying our green initiative throughout all of our product categories.

We have cut down waste by replacing the heavy, zippered board bags with a durable, fully recyclable shrink-wrap. This eliminates about 30,000 pounds of plastic waste annually. We have also eliminated fluorocarbons from our wax and made the conversion to a 100% naturally derived biodegradable formula. Full swap die-cut bases are used on almost every Ride snowboard, which eliminates a significant amount of waste that otherwise would go to landfills and does not require any inks or solvents like many standard bases.

For boot packaging, we have replaced plastic and paper foot forms with a recycled cardboard foot form, and replaced plastic bags on each boot with a paper separator, both of which are recyclable. Ride boots now feature 30% recycled EVA backing in the shell.

All of Ride's binding baseplates and heelcups are made from roughly 50% recycled aluminum, and much like your empty beer cans, are 100% consumer recyclable.

For Ride Apparel, we have a new recycled polyester fabric (54% Polyester/46% Recycled Polyester), used exclusively on our men's Capitol and women's Ravenna down jackets. In the Cappel Outerwear collection, we offer a couple eco-friendly fabrics including a Hemp Rip Stop fabric that blends hemp, recycled polyester and cotton, and a Recycled Dobby Polyester Blend fabric. Cappel also features trim details such as woven taping, elastic cording and gripper elastic that are made from recycled PET plastic bottles. In addition to our fabric and trims, all of our outerwear hangtags are made from 50% recycled material and we have eliminated the use of garment bags for Cappel Outerwear.

As we continue to develop new technologies, refine products and improve processes, reducing our impact will be a consideration each step of the way.
